Overview of Infectious Diseases in China (January 2026)

In January 2026, the nationwide situation of notifiable infectious diseases in China (excluding data from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) is as follows:

– Total reported cases of notifiable infectious diseases: 1,898,294

– Total deaths: 1,930

For Class A infectious diseases, there were no reported cases or deaths.

Among Class B infectious diseases, a total of 277,621 cases and 1,927 deaths were reported. The top five diseases by number of reported cases were viral hepatitis, syphilis, pulmonary tuberculosis, COVID-19, and gonorrhea, accounting for 95.2 percent of all reported Class B infectious diseases. There were no reported cases or deaths of SARS, poliomyelitis, and diphtheria.

Among Class C infectious diseases, a total of 1,620,673 cases and 3 deaths were reported. The top three diseases by number of reported cases were influenza, other infectious diarrheal diseases, and hand, foot and mouth disease, accounting for 99.6 percent of all reported Class C infectious diseases.

During the same period, a total of 68,366 cases and 2 deaths were reported for the 9 priority-monitored non-notifiable infectious diseases. The top three diseases by number of reported cases were chickenpox, liver fluke disease, and human infection with Streptococcus suis, accounting for 99.99 percent of all reported of 9 priority-monitored non-notifiable infectious diseases.
